Atmos Consulting is looking for 2 full time, experienced Senior Ecologists to join our team in Edinburgh or Inverness.  The ideal candidates will have 3-5 years consultancy experience, with good knowledge of habitat surveys or ECoW. You will need to be an established and experienced ecologist who is seeking to develop your career further as a consultant. We want to hear about your passion for ecological consultancy and ability to nurture client relationships and deliver projects on time and within budget.

The Position

On a day-to-day basis the requirements of the post would involve:

  • Planning and managing ecological surveys using various survey methods;
  • Playing a key role in the delivery of the ecological/ornithological services that Atmos provides;
  • Scoping and Project Management of a range of projects from small to large scale;
  • Technical reporting and tendering;
  • Negotiating with statutory agencies, NGOs and other stakeholders;
  • Building/maintaining relationships with clients;
  • Business generation and promotion of Atmos Consulting to new clients;
  • Resource planning and financial reporting;
  • Mentoring of junior members of the Atmos Ecology Team;
  • Maintaining your own and others' Continuing Professional Development; and
  • Operating at all times in accordance with the CIEEM Professional Code of Conduct.


The Person

We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced ecologist with strong skills in habitat surveys and/or ECoW. You must also be able to establish and nurture relationships with clients. Atmos is proud of the innovative approach we bring to our ecology and ornithology services and we want you to be flexible and problem-solving.

We are seeking someone who is dependable and reliable with a sound ecological background and proven project experience. The role would incorporate working in a supporting role to senior colleagues, as well as advising and mentoring more junior members of the team.

You will have excellent communication skills and have experience of authoring a wide range of technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments. You should be fully conversant with the framework of legislation and guidance within the UK, and experience of the protected species licensing process would be advantageous. You should be degree educated and ideally be a full member of CIEEM.

Accurate record-keeping and good project management skills are a fundamental requirement of the post, as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to advise clients on technical issues both strategically and in detail when required.
